Are you a teacher or an advocate?

Jun 10, 2024

If you're on my website reading this blog post, chances are we have something in common - we both want more babies to be carried in this world.

And while there are a million different ways we can all use our unique skill sets and passions to help make this happen, in some ways it's pretty simple.

The way I see it, there are two basic categories of babywearing champions: those who promote & support, and those who teach & guide. And while of course there's often overlap, these roles require very different skills and levels of commitment.

Babywearing supporters, like those who take our Newborn Babywearing Training, are critical in helping families and caregivers to discover, explore, and understand babywearing. They can open the door for these families to think about babywearing differently, providing encouragement and helping them find professional guidance when appropriate so they don't lose their way.

Supporters may share personal experiences, participate in online forums, attend local meetups, or offer encouragement to fellow caregivers. This role is crucial in creating a welcoming environment where individuals feel empowered to explore babywearing at their own pace.

On the other hand, being a babywearing teacher involves a deeper level of commitment and expertise in guiding caregivers through the practical aspects of babywearing. These educators equip themselves with the knowledge and skills necessary to instruct others safely and effectively. These are the folks who challenge themselves in our flagship course, Foundations in Babywearing Education, and go beyond being babywearing enthusiasts to become highly trained consultants.

They conduct workshops, one-on-one consultations, and classes, providing hands-on demonstrations, troubleshooting, and tailored advice to meet the unique needs of each caregiver and child.

Both of these roles are essential - and both require their own unique set of skills and knowledge.

Wondering which role is right for you, and what skills you'll need to excel at it? You're not alone, {{ first_name }}.

Over the next 8 weeks, every Tuesday afternoon, we'll be sending out a series of emails exploring these questions and helping you figure out what you need to do to step into your place in the babywearing world with confidence.

What is it that you need to know to be an effective babywearing advocate? What is the difference between knowing and teaching, and why does it matter?

And, maybe most importantly... which role is the best fit for you in your life right now?
